UKSTT Awards 2015

Environmental Techniques are proud to announce our project for Dublin City Sewerage Scheme has been awarded the "Innovation Scheme" award at the 2015 UKSTT Awards. The project was completed in partnership with Atkins Ltd on behalf of Irish Water and Dublin City Council.

The award showcases projects of all sizes and types where lateral innovative thinking or approaches have enabled successful application of existing systems in unorthodox or creative ways.

Our project in Dublin City Centre was undertaken in 2014 and involved using our Sonar Profiling System to gather critical information of the condition of the trunk sewers running adjacent to the River Liffey. Due to high flows and debris in the lines, these sewers had not been surveyed for a considerable time. By combining CCTV and Sonar surveys on a float system, there was no need for vast over-pumping and de-silting operations.

CCTV footage recorded condition of the sewers above the water line, whilst the Sonar Profiler System provided a visual profile and dimensions of significant items or defects below the waterline which would otherwise be missed on a standard CCTV float survey. Debris levels, defects and other obstructions could be quantified using the Sonar Profiler System and applied to network models.

Working alongside Atkins' engineers and Dublin City Council, the project was a huge success in using latest technologies to overcome obstacles that had prevented surveys from being completed in the past.

The Sonar Profiler System is now being used on a number of different jobs throughout the United Kingdom and this award highlights the innovation of the product and how it can be used to help clients and engineers solve problems with surveying surcharged and semi-surcharged pipelines.

Environmental Techniques' Director, Paul Smyth, attended the UKSTT Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony in Birmingham on 24th April to collect the award.

Our CIPP project in Havilland Hall, Guernsey, was also shortlisted for the Small Renovation (<£250k) Award.
